Legions Imperialis – Point values of the 1st wave

As this question was asked more often, a quick overview, where you land with the items from the first wave.

Warhammer The Horus Heresy - Legions Imperialis

A few things up front

  • No, the starter set can not be combined into one large legal army as they Primary and Ally army split is 70/30 of points. There is a special formation for quick starter games, that is not meant for matched play.
  • You can mix multiple Astartes Legions into one army, as they don't count into the allied contingent if your primary list is Astartes
  • The 30% allied contingent count against anything that is not your primary army list. The Aeronautica units of your primary army are usually air support and don't count against the allied contingent.

Legions Imperialis – Mustering the Solar Auxilia

We showed you how the army building in Legions Imperialis works with the example of an Astartes army. And we want to pick up the idea and build and extend the other half of the starter kit, the Solar Auxilia.

Horus Heresy - Solar Auxilia

The four steps are the same:

  • Declare Allegiance
  • Choose Primary Army List
  • Assemble Compulsory Formations
  • Complete the Army

November 2023 review

Welcome to december - the last few weeks of 2023. But start with some proper good news. CRISIS is back!

Crisis 2024

The once largest wargaming convention on the european mainland returns in an adapted variant. The pauses of Covid and the barriers due to Brexit took a toll on the show and thus forced the organisators to look for alternatives. In 2022 they went for LARDwerp, with a similar format in 2023. But in the next year the Tinsoldiers of Antwerp will colaborate with the HQ Gaming Club to organise a new show on November 2nd, as usual the first weekend in November. And we're already excited to be there.

Legions Imperialis – Civitas Imperialis

Terrain worth fighting over. This is something Games Workshop has provided with the Civitas Imperialis range already for Adeptus Titanicus and they are picking this up again for Legions Imperialis. I did reviews on these back in the day, the sprues are back and they have a lot of option.

The idea of this article is to give you an overview, what they contain as they are very similar named and a deal on the first sight, might not be that much of bargain once you had time to compare.

Star Wars Shatterpoint – Take Cover Terrain Pack

The second terrain set for Star Wars Shatterpoint after the High Ground set is the more compact Take Cover Terrain Pack.

Star Wars Shatterpoint - Take Cover Terrain Pack Star Wars Shatterpoint - Take Cover Terrain Pack

To classifiy Shatterpoint within the Star Wars miniatures games, as a 40mm scale skirmish it is a bit taller than the platoon level 1:48 / 32-35mm scale of Star Wars Legions. And as such creates the need for a different kind of terrain, as you only have about 8 models per side on the table and not entire units as well as vehicles.

Legions Imperialis – Vanguard Miniatures

Back in 2020 we did a review on the Vanguard Miniatures and their range of metal (!) miniatures for Epic. The range is called Defeat in Detail, is available in 3, 6 and 15mm and covers the Novan Commonwealth (Imperium), Cybershadow (Mechanicum) and even some Xenos races.

But as we now have access to the Legions Imperialis range, we want to compare the metal models with the plastic, beginning with their Novan Elites vs. the Legiones Astartes. Pretty close in size, would work at regular games distance.

Star Wars Shatterpoint – High Ground Terrain Pack

"It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground." - This is what Obi-Wan said to Anakin Skywalker in Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith, and that is name patron for the Star Wars Shatterpoint High Ground Terrain Pack. And it is a proper palette cleanser after some weeks in the epic scale to move towards terrain and something bigger than 10mm.

Star Wars Shatterpoint - High Ground Terrain Pack Star Wars Shatterpoint - High Ground Terrain Pack

To give you a brief introduction, Star Wars is one of the IP that Asmodee holds and offers various games within the Star Wars universe. While X-Wing or Armada are clearly different, what is the difference between Star Wars Legions and Star Wars Shatterpoint? Legions is a platoon based game, giving you a small to mid-size army, including troops and vehicles in 1:48 scale (~35mm scale) with realistic proportions and Shatterpoint is even bigger than that, going for 40mm scale with more overdrawn, cartoonish proportions, but reducing the scope of the game towards a skirmish with about 6 to 8 models per side.
