Legions Imperialis – Solar Auxilia Stormhammers

In case you are looking for something heavier than a Baneblade, there is an option for the Solar Auxilia in Legions Imperialis - the Stormhammers.

Legions Imperialis - Solar Auxilia Stormhammers Legions Imperialis - Solar Auxilia Stormhammers

Like the other super-heavy squadrons, this boxed set covers two vehicles as well, both are build as Stormhammers. This set of two sprues is available at a RRP of 41 EURs / 31,50 GBP.

Initially this tank was build as a massive anti-infantry tank during the Great Crusade and fulfilled this task reliably against the Orks and later during the civil war. And even 10.000 years later, this tank pattern is still in service, just not with the Solar Auxilia but Astra Militarum. While there are different variants and armaments for the vehicle, within Legions Imperialis it has only the option between multi-laser or lascannon sponsons.

Warmaster – Small Settlements to fight over

We are talking about Warmaster again and after printing a whole week of tiny skeletons, I wanted to add some terrain to the table. While I have generic terrain like hills and trees, I thought about a small town or settlement, that could be used as a point of interest or scenario objective.

Not everything, but a lot of terrain can be scaled down to 40% to fit Warmaster, and as I wanted to have a small settlement, that could be used with Bretonnians as well as Undeads, I searched for some more rugged, run-down buildings, that could house either rather poor peasants or corrupted minions of the undead. And the Slum huts by Infinite Dimenions Games would be perfect for that!

Infinite Dimenions Games - Slum Shacks

Initially I intended to print the shacks A, B, C and the Slum Tenement A, but the last one would take 5 (!) print plates on my printer, so I decided to just go for the three shacks, and as you can see above, these already provide a bit of a foot print.

Kick Off 2025

We gave you a summary of the last year already in our recap article on 2024, so it is time to look ahead on 2025.

It was surely a good year wargaming wise, lots of travelling and meeting up with people, and the plan is surely to keep on doing that for the new year.

TabletopWelt - Maltreffen 2024 Rittergut Lützensömmern TinSoldiers of Antwerp - Crisis 2024 - Trench Crusade

Shows, Conventions and real-life gaming meetups

I talked with Dino and the others, to see what we can fit in our schedule for this year and try to fix as much as possible. So far these are booked or at least written down in bold letters in my calendar. And we're starting with an event in the next week already.

Warmaster – Tomb Kings of Khemri

What is a perfect way to motivate yourself beside deadlines? Having somebody else join your project / play the same games. So I managed to fire up Florian / Celebration Parallax about Warmaster and he chose the Tomb Kings of Khemri.

Not a bad fit, as that would create the Bretonnia vs. Khemri setup from the Old World Release, we could do a bit of crusading and it would certainly not feel like a mirror match.

Warmaster - Tomb Kings of Khemri

Beside that, due to their design, painting them in 10mm shouldn't be the hardest thing, as you could probably easily do a lot already with a coloured primer, midtone wash and a bit of dry-brushing. For those of you, who don't know the Tomg Kings of Khemri, they are egyptian themed undead within the Warhammer World, using a lot of elements of the era, like Sphinxes or Chariots.

The Barons War – Fantasy Skirmish arrived

Earlier this year the Barons War range was extended by a fantasy range, crowd financed via Kickstarter. The duo of Andy Hobday and Paul Hicks cooperated on various projects in the past, some as direct parts of Footsore, and after some back and forth with various names, the Barons War range is a Warhost product, by HobdayandHicks.

The delivery was a bit behind schedule (really just slightly, it was intended to ship in November and now was 2-3 weeks later), which isn't a huge issue for me, but due to the changes in GPSR they had a bit of hurry to deliver the packages to send out the European packages before the mid of december. This isn't the first time I backed a Kickstarter campaign where the two were involved, as I participated with Gangs of Rome, Barons War and treated myself to a custom sculpt with Outremer.

For this campaign, they went for a new interesting packaging, with printed boxes and beautiful artwork by Peter Dennis (who we will discuss further below again) and that certainly upgrades the value of the set.

Deth Wizards – Raising the dead

In December we started talking about what to cover for next years CONflict Rhineland, after we did Tanks for the Apocalypse in 2024 by Snarling Badger Studios. Various options were on the table, we were thinking about doing a mech game using Osprey's Gamma Wolves or Arsenal, or doing naval warfare with Galleys & Galleons by Ganesha Games. We considered using Deathship One by Joseph McCullough (the author of Frostgrave), and have the survivors fight a mighty vampire and after me throwing in my Zombie T-Rex, we ended up back with Snarling Badger Studio and their necromantic skirmish combat Deth Wizards.

As that game is capable of solo- and coop gaming as well, it would be very flexible for a hosted table, as we could adapt the scenarios to the liking and skill level of the gamers. Beside that, Florian just got a new 3d printer (Bambu Lab A1) and with him printing Briarwood terrain pieces, it was a great excuse for everybody to paint up some Undead. Even Dino joins in and we will have parallel projects - that is a first.

Da Red Gobbo – A-Bomb-Inable Snowman

Last year we got double-trouble with the Da Red Gobbo Surprise and Grotmas Gitz, and this year we get another christmas themed miniature by Games Workshop from the Commemorative Series, Da Red Gobbo's A-Bomb-Inable Snowman. As of now, he is not available from Games Workshop directly anymore, you have to go through the independent retailers network for that, but that shouldn't be an issue.

The latest of the Red Gobbos is priced at 34 EUR, unfortunately an increase towards last years 32,50 EUR. And of course, the miniature comes with a scenario for Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40k, which you can download for free from Warhammer Community.

Star Wars Shatterpoint – Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack

A fine addition to the Shatterpoint terrain series is the Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack, which was released in the second half of 2024 and we're looking into it today.

Star Wars Shatterpoint - Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack Star Wars Shatterpoint - Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack

The large boxed set has a RRP of 84,99 USD / 85 EUR, but prices vary online. The Maintenance Bay covers an Outer Rim Garage and a womprat and is produced by Asmodee / Atomic Mass Games.

While it part of the Shatterpoint range (a 40mm scale skirmish) it is a bit taller than the platoon level 1:48 / 32-35mm scale of Star Wars Legion, but still can be used with games down to 32mm heroic scale, but we will see into that further below.
